My major is Japanese classical literature, medical humanities, Japanese comparative literature, East Asian comparative literature, and educational technology.
Japanese Literature, Comparative Literature, and Medical Humanities, and Medical Mythology
My approach draws from medical texts and medical culture, focusing on the interdisciplinary field of Medical Humanities, which bridges literary studies and medical discourse.
This research direction was developed through my work on the 2016 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKEN) (C) project, “A Study of the Theory of the Emergence of Medical Representation Culture and Mythology/Folk Literature in Asian Medicinal Herb Medicine Men.”
Medical Humanities seeks to construct a theoretical framework that explores the intrinsic connections between literature and medicine, aiming to contribute to society through the methodologies of traditional philological research.
Building on the findings of the 2021 joint research project at Research Institute for Islands and Sustainability (RIIS), University of the Ryukyus, I have examined representations of medical practice and pharmacology in classical texts such as the Manyoshu, Nihon Ryoiki, and Genji Monogatari. This has led to further investigations into regional records such as the Fudoki.
My research in Medical Humanities is grounded in the rich interdisciplinary context of both the medical and literary fields, approached from multiple perspectives. As social interest in healthcare continues to grow, I consider it vital to foster international research dissemination and promote collaborative frameworks between the humanities and medicine.
I am currently developing “Medical Mythology,” a field that builds upon Medical Humanities, and pursuing research in this area.
Educational Technology
In the realm of education, I have been engaged in academic management since assuming my position as a full-time faculty member. Two principles guide my educational practice and administrative responsibilities: First, policy implementation must be grounded in a clear understanding of students’ needs and abilities, with a focus on making their academic development visible. Second, I actively promote Faculty Development (FD) not only in classroom settings but also at the organizational level, through continuous improvement of curricula and educational programs.
I also passed the Real Estate Transaction Specialist Examination at the age of 19, which gave me a legal and logical mindset.
